About Michael Gill

Currently Chief Scientist (Meteorologist) at Met Éireann’s Valentia Observatory, I lead research and monitoring programmes that advance the science of meteorology and geophysics. My work encompasses high-precision surface and upper-air atmospheric observations, as well as long-term geomagnetic and geophysical measurements that are vital to understanding Earth–atmosphere interactions. These datasets contribute to international networks, supporting advances in weather prediction, climate science, space weather, and environmental monitoring. At Valentia Observatory, I oversee the scientific integrity of both meteorological and geophysical systems, ensuring that observations meet the highest standards of accuracy and reliability. By integrating atmospheric and geomagnetic research, I strengthen the observatory’s role as a unique multidisciplinary site and a key contributor to global meteorological, geophysical, and climate science initiatives.
