About Michael Gill

I’m a commercial and operational leader, with experience scaling an early-stage tech start-up from day one through to its acquisition and successful integration into Google. Recently I departed Google in which I was the Go-to-Market lead in their Merchant Shopping team. I was employee no.1 at Pointy, a Dublin based retail tech start-up that raised ~$20m in funding and was acquired by Google in January 2020. During my time at Pointy I wore many hats but ultimately settled into the role of COO and Head of Legal (leveraging legal qualification). Essentially the role at Pointy could be described as identifying the most pressing challenges facing the company and then creating scalable, cost effective and innovative solutions. Following the acquisition of Pointy by Google I continued to lead and run the day to day operations while also leading parts of the integration (people, processes, legal, privacy, operations). During my tenure at Google I took on greater scope by leading all of the Go-to-Market functions (sales, business development, marketing) which grew my team to ~50 people. The goal of hitting targets and maintaining day to day operations while also integrating these functions to Google was incredibly challenging. Before tech l was a qualified solicitor specialising in construction and mining law (primarily dispute resolution), working in Dublin, Brisbane Australia and Jakarta Indonesia.
