About Michael Granto

As an aspiring urban planner with a solid foundation in sustainability studies, I am dedicated to fostering resilient communities through innovative and sustainable urban development. My educational journey began at Santa Fe College, where I graduated with an AA in Biochemistry and was honored as a Hall of Fame Recipient. I then continued my studies at the University of Florida, earning a Bachelor's degree in Sustainability Studies and enrolling in a 4+1 Combined Degree program to pursue a Master's in Urban and Regional Planning. I am currently in the Master's of Urban and Regional Planning program at UF where I will graduate in Spring 2025. With a keen interest in GIS and its applications, I have gained practical experience as an intern with the North Central Florida Regional Planning Council and the U.S. Air Force Community Planning PCIP. My work included rainfall modeling studies, land use changes, facility space optimization plans, and district planning, showcasing my ability to apply GIS tools like ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro in real-world scenarios. My research experience spans various roles, including contributing to agricultural preservation studies with Friends of Florida and supporting sustainable development projects with the City of Gainesville. At the Wilson Agroecology Laboratory, I assisted in research on alternative cropping systems, further honing my data collection and analysis skills. Beyond my professional endeavors, I am actively involved in community engagement and leadership. As a Senior Officer for Saints for Sustainability and an Eagle Scout, I have been able to stay active in public service. I am passionate about integrating sustainability into urban planning and leveraging my diverse skill set to create more sustainable, efficient, and resilient communities. Let's connect and explore opportunities to make a positive impact together.
