About Michael Griffin
Mr. Griffin is a Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in mechanical and electrical systems. His broad experience includes metal casting and fabrication, plastics extrusions and molding, and various automotive subsystems including engine control, powertrain, interiors and body structures. In his current role, Michael’s expertise has expanded into the area of ac power distribution components and systems for audio/video systems. Mr. Griffin earned a BS degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before joining General Motors (GM) in 1980. Michael’s formal technical education includes post-graduate studies in electrical engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology while employed at GM's Rochester Products Division. During this period, Mr. Griffin was Lead Design Engineer for fuel injection systems. Michael's design efforts resulted in three (3) US Patents for product inventions. In 1986 Mr. Griffin received a GM Fellowship to attend The Wharton School to pursue an MBA, graduating with dual marketing and finance majors. Following graduation, Mr. Griffin joined GM's North American Marketing Staff as a Senior Analyst and liaison with vehicle brand teams. This experience included working with the Electric Vehicle Task Force. In 1990 Mr. Griffin joined the Large & Luxury Car Group as a Vehicle Systems Engineer for several vehicle programs. During this period, Michael received a Chairman’s Honors Award for efforts that resulted in the Cadillac Deville/STS crash-worthiness receiving a “best pick” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. In 2005 Mr. Griffin left GM to build Essential Sound Products, a design and manufacturing company offering ac power cords and distribution accessories for audio and video applications. These products improve audio and video component performance by enhancing clarity, increasing dynamics and lowering noise. In 2008 Essential Sound Products introduced the "MusicCord" brand of ac power cords. Originally intended for musician artists and recording professioanls, MusicCord continues to expand its application portfolio into custom residential Home Theater, and PA systems in both entertainment venues and houses of worship. Mr. Griffin has received two (2) US Patents for his inventions in power cable technology. This technology offers potential improvements in other, non-audio applications where high current, low-impedance and increased bandwidth are important.
