Chose nursing over crop breeding and bench science after following my wife to Seattle for her graduate studies. Combined my affinity for research with compassion for people. Worked a variety of jobs including logistics, food service, and janitorial service while supporting her and taking prerequisite courses. Now celebrating 10 years of nursing, caring for the sickest patients in the country. The following is an excerpt from an email to my manager from a patient’s daughter that illustrates my impact at the bedside."I am just over 24 hours out from the passing of my father in St. Luke's yesterday evening and less than a month and a half out from the passing of my mom from cancer. Obviously, there are far more important communications and actions that the moment dictates, but I felt this was important enough to take a pause. Between both parents, I've been with, and through, literally hundreds of caregivers. But both my brother and I have never been as impressed with the professionalism, compassion and downright dedication to the patient and job, that Michael had. He took care of my precious father on the last day of his life and did it with such patience and grace, even knowing what the ultimate outcome would be."
