About Michael Halder

I am working in a field I love. Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the natural world. I decided to turn my curiosity and fascination with nature into a career to protect what ultimately sustains all of us. My work in the environmental protection field has included helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality, protecting both groundwater and surface water resources from contamination and depletion, and working to help cities around the world better incorporate biodiversity into their spatial planning. I do this work through employing my skills in qualitative and quantitative research, policy and data analysis, report writing, and stakeholder engagement. I have worked in both the public and environmental non-governmental sectors for over 10 years. I am currently employed with Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks and I collaborate with the Urban Biodiversity Hub on a voluntary basis on their research and projects. In my roles, I contributed towards the writing of multiple academic and non-academic publications, refining the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s Urban Nature Index for cities to self-assess their ecological impact, as well as establishing the annual reporting framework and online reporting tool for the Province of Ontario's drinking water source protection program.
