About Michael Hand

Michael Hand has extensive experience over 30 years as a senior leader in the Consulting Engineering and Construction sectors in Ireland. He has also acted as CEO and Director of a State Agency. He is currently an Independent Non Executive Director holds a number of Non Executive Director positions. He played a lead role in the growth and development of a leading multidisciplinary business, PH McCarthy Consulting Engineers, as Director, Managing Director and Executive Chairman. Following the successful merger of the business with WYG Group plc in 2007 he led the WYG Ireland engineering business. Michael joined Grangegorman Development Agency in 2010 as CEO & Director and led the organisation in advancing the €2Bn Grangegorman Urban Quarter. Notable successes included securing planning permission via the Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) route, securing over €350m funding and advancing detailed planning and delivery for the new DIT/TU Dublin + HSE Campus. The first DIT/TU Dublin students arrived on site in 2014. His career achievements include: setting strategic direction; building strong teams & effective organisation structures; developing successful new business lines; marketing professional services; business reputation & risk management; major infrastructural delivery under various procurement models; merger negotiation & post merger integration and cost reduction programmes. Michael has worked in the public and private sectors and has also worked with distinction in the voluntary community sector. Michael is highly qualified in Engineering and business and is a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered Water & Environment Manager. He is also a Chartered Director and holds a Certificate and Diploma in company direction from the Institute of Directors. In 2014, he was conferred with a Honorary Doctorate by DIT/TU Dublin in recognition of his contribution as an engineer, a public servant and as a servant to his community.
