Background

About Michael Hardman

I lead technology in high-risk healthcare environments where failure has real-world consequences. My background is in diagnosing and recovering large-scale EHR and national digital systems that are under operational or performance stress, and in building the engineering practices needed to prevent those failures recurring.I currently serve as Practice Lead for Software Development at a health technology consultancy, where I shape how software is designed, governed and delivered across major NHS programmes. My remit spans both strategic direction and hands-on technical leadership from national identity infrastructure to large trust EHR deployments with accountability for patient safety, resilience and long-term sustainability.A core part of my work is translating technical risk into executive-level decisions: helping boards, clinical leaders and delivery teams understand what matters, what can wait, and what will fail if it’s ignored. I build teams and standards that allow organisations to move fast without putting frontline services at risk.I speak regularly on EHR resilience, secure identity in healthcare and the operational realities of digital transformation in clinical settings. I am a strong advocate for disciplined release governance and engineering maturity in national critical infrastructure, where reliability is not a feature but a duty.
