About Michael Hartinger
I’m a space plasma physicist who studies space weather: phenomena occurring in the near-Earth space environment that can directly or indirectly affect technology (e.g, the power grid). My research has led to new insights into the generation and evolution of plasma waves and, more generally, how energy flows between the Sun and different regions in the near-Earth space environment.I’m PI or co-PI of several NSF and NASA research projects, including an array of instruments that monitor near-Earth space from Antarctica (https://eos.org/project-updates/space-weather-from-a-southern-point-of-view).
