About Michael Harvey

As a Living Environment Teacher in the South Huntington Union Free School District, I am passionate about inspiring students to think like scientists and apply their knowledge to real-world problems. I teach Living Environment (Biology) and several elective courses in Science. I also design curriculum and assessments that align with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS), using inquiry-based and student-centered approaches. I hold a BA in Biology and Adolescent Education from SUNY Geneseo, where I received the Outstanding Student Teaching in Adolescence Science Award for my performance in the classroom. I also hold an MS in Geological and Earth Sciences from Ohio University, which makes me dual-certified in Earth Science. Additionally, I will be pursuing a Bilingual and ENL Extension for my Living Environment Teaching Certification so I may teach my subject area in Spanish. I have multiple certifications from the New York State Education Department and the American Red Cross, as well as proficiency in Spanish. I am always eager to learn new skills and explore new opportunities in education, whether through research, professional development, or leadership roles.
