About Michael Henderson

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that all students have the ability to learn and succeed. Coming from a mixed background, I understand the value of diversity and inclusivity in the classroom. I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students, and to promote equity by recognizing and addressing any barriers to learning that may exist. I am also highly adaptable as I have already lived in Japan, Turkey, Sweden and Australia. My teaching philosophy is also informed by my multicultural background as a half Australian and half Japanese individual. I believe that my unique perspective allows me to bring a diverse range of experiences and ideas to the classroom, and to foster a more inclusive learning environment for all students. I believe in the importance of cultural understanding and respect, and strive to create a classroom where all students feel valued and respected. I aim to promote cross-cultural understanding by incorporating different perspectives and global issues into my lessons, and by providing opportunities for students to learn about different cultures. Furthermore I hold the belief that education should be student-centred, and that learning should be an active and engaging process. I strive to create a classroom culture where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks, and making mistakes. I also believe in the importance of real-world connections and hands-on learning experiences, as they provide opportunities for students to apply what they have learned in meaningful ways. Additionally, I believe in the importance of ongoing assessment and reflection in order to improve my teaching and better meet the needs of my students. I am always open to feedback and willing to adjust my teaching methods as needed. Another component to my teaching is using inquiry models to engage students in the learning process. Overall, my goal is to empower students to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, and lifelong learners. I am dedicated to fostering a positive and inclusive learning community where all students can thrive. The common theme that unifies these aspects of my teaching philosophy are the emphasis on educating the whole child which reflects my initial teacher training and core beliefs about what is the purpose of education.
