Prior Prog. Director & Substance Abuse Counselor for Turning Point Community Programs Free To Choose IOP /O.P where I assisted those with addiction, severe mental illness, & those without shelter. I work closely with Yolo counties case managers who represent clients in addiction intervention court and mental health court by providing harm reduction counseling. Prior to 2019, I had the pleasure of counseling those in a private practice outpatient program, New Directions Program in Fair Oaks, CA. which was founded in 1981 by David Gust, LAADC, NAADAC who I consider a life long mentor and worked closely with for several years where I specialized in working with adolescent, young adult and, adult males. I have also worked as a MAT (medicated assisted treatment) counselor at (BAART, previously BiValley) specializing in counseling opioid dependent clients. Prior to working specifically in addition counseling I resigned as The Director of Social Services/ Acting Program Director, Social Worker of an Adult Day Health Care Program in the north Bay Area of CA. where I provided services for over several years to those with co occurring diagnosis (mental health & chemical dependency). My background in working with those who struggle with mental illness at various levels of care has added to my skill sets as an Addiction Counselor. Being a registered social worker at an adult day healthcare prog. required observing, monitoring, & assessing sixty plus clients on a daily basis and assisted by one on one counseling. I am currently working towards a MSW. The Adult Day Health Care prog. was therapeutic, socially stimulating and educational. Provided care to elderly, other adults with physical or mental impairments due to severe drug and alcohol induced mental illnesses or DD/ II for the purpose of restoring and maintaining optimal capacity for self-care. Interned as a Case Manager for Next Move (Sac. Area Emergency Housing Agency) while serving the chronically homeless population until I graduated from Cal. State Univ, Sacramento in May of 2015. BSW internship included case management services to culturally diverse populations, conducted weekly substance abuse recovery groups and assisted in self advocacy. Created weekly individual service plans, assisted in establishing goals and tasks for clients. Created biopsychosocial assessments for those I humbly served in a case management role. Worked full time while enrolled full time at CSUS.Over a decade of retail management prior to undergraduate studies.
