About Michael Hunter

I’m a 40-year veteran of EMS that still loves taking care of patients and improving the quality of life for both patients and providers. I’ve been with UMass Memorial Health for the last 30 years working in a busy, urban EMS system. We are a hospital based, all paramedic service. Our hospital is the region’s tertiary care teaching hospital, only Level 1 ACS Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center and a STEMI and Stroke Center. I’m actively involved with our EMD and Disaster Medicine fellowship programs. EMS operations has always been my specialty. In addition to advancing patient care, I supervise our secondary PSAP communications center, plan medical responses to events within our community and am a medical team leader for our tactical EMS program, assigned to a statewide police organization’s STOP Team. I’ve presented on multiple EMS topics at local, regional and national EMS conferences. I’m a contributing editor and contributor for multiple EMS books and actively involved in internationally taught EMS continuing education courses.
