About Michael Hurley

I'm a software developer working primarily with C# and T-SQL. I enjoy the power and flexibility these languages afford, and I'm always looking for new technologies to integrate with the Microsoft stack. My favorite projects are those that automate previously manual processes - it feels great knowing I am saving someone much-appreciated time. My close relationship with computers began at a young age. I played games on the family computer, which ran on Windows 95 - we had to punch in some funky command just to start it up. Back then, a game as simple as Flak Attack was revolutionary to me. As I grew older, the role of the computer expanded to include academic functions, and I saw a world of information at my fingertips on the internet. It was here I started to realize how powerful computers were, and how much convenience they afforded. Having spent so much time around computers, I felt it was worth pursuing a career that involved working with them. While playing with a smorgasbord of technologies and techniques in college, the principles and applications of software development began to stick. My first roles after college centered around modernization and debugging, and it was here I decided to focus on C# and T-SQL. I wrote a Windows Form App and an Excel VSTO Addin to perform calculations and format our deliverables. I also translated old VBA scripts into vastly more efficient stored procedures in T-SQL. It was an excellent chance to cement the things I learned in college with real work experience. In my current role I've branched out to solve a wide variety of problems. Modernization is a continuous need. Whether it be converting paper processes into virtual ones using electronic forms and workflows, automating the filing of client paperwork into a third-party storage solution, or creating engaging web portals for our clients, I'm always finding opportunities to serve others with my skills. My dream is to continue this service while constantly improving my repertoire, and to make my integrations the absolute best.
