About Michael Huston

I am a licensed architect and certified planner based in St Petersburg, FL. I have a multi-disciplinary skill set that includes architecture, new urbanism, master planning and complete streets design. In the private sector, I use the tools of urban design and placemaking to add value and foster a sense of community. I work from the scale of the region to the scale of the building and block. In the public sector, I assist in creating master plans for redevelopment that reflect the local market and community vision. My approach focuses on the distinction between the public and private realm and how each must be addressed using the appropriate tools including zoning and form-based codes, capital improvements, economic incentives and regulatory reform. My essays on architecture and urbanism have appeared in national online platforms including Planetizen, Common Edge, ArcDaily, and CNU's Public Square. However, I make my living by designing - not writing. In my free time, I am an avid traveler, photographer and tennis player. I also contribute my time toward advocating for public realm improvements (especially pedestrian and bike improvements) in my local area.
