Michael J. Brewer is an ordinary Black homosexual with a passion for justice, equality and democracy—and a sharp talent for strategic political communications. Equal parts political trailblazer Shirley Chisholm, stage & screen star Billy Porter and “The West Wing’s” C.J. Cregg, Michael grew up in a loving working-class family in Oklahoma City, OK where he first developed his interest in politics and writing, and matriculated at Morehouse College where he twirled through the streets of Atlanta and fell in love with social justice and activism before graduating with a degree in Political Science. Michael is currently Communications Director for U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael G. Warnock (D-GA). Previously, Michael served as Senior Press Secretary to U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Assistant Senate Democratic Leader and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions, and burnished his progressive principles and political savvy through stints at AFL-CIO’s national field organization Working America, the National Black Justice Coalition, the U.S. House of Representatives and the Georgia General Assembly. Michael comes with nearly fifteen years of deep practice and skilled experience in state and federal legislative politics, public policy advocacy, state and local electoral campaigns, and writing hilarious underrated tweets. Most of all, Michael cares about liberating Black people, queer people and those who have been historically-marginalized, and working to create a peaceful society free of systemic oppression.
