Background
About Michael J. Ernst
I am seeking additional full- or part-time employment while I work on my doctoral dissertation for the next 2-3 years. I am currently a doctoral candidate at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art & Architecture where I study Islamic Art History. My focus is the intersection of visual culture, nationalism, identity, and religion, especially in the former Soviet Republics of the Caucasus and Central Asia. I hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Pennsylvania in History, Middle East & Islamic Studies, and Education. I have three years of course design and teaching experience as an Adjunct Instructor at Temple University. I have taught and designed both in-person and on-line courses, both synchronous and asynchronous. My research experience includes consulting for a non-profit social policy research group at Temple University. As a consultant, I worked for several years in a variety of capacities on both academic and government-funded projects, including several national and longitudinal studies. Additionally, I have extensive student engagement experience having worked for Penn College Houses & Academic Services for five years as a Graduate Fellow. During this time, I worked in two different college houses (Hill and Gregory) where I mentored, advised, counseled, and planned programming for Penn freshmen. I also have extensive experience in crisis management and conflict mediation. Lastly, I am committed to helping students with physical and learning disabilities. Because of this, I pursued a master’s degree in the Learning Sciences & Technologies at Penn’s Graduate School of Education to better understand learning processes and interventions to help struggling students.
