About Michael J. Murtha

I am an admitted attorney to the New York State Bar focusing his legal work in the field of tax law in addition to providing tax preparation services to both individuals and businesses. In 2014 I became a young alumnus of Hofstra Law School who concentrated his legal education in the area of tax law. Before attending law school I received my B.S. in Accounting from Saint Joseph's University with a minor concentration in Business Intelligence. To help complement my undergraduate studies I participated in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program sponsored by the IRS and offered through the university. Building off my experience of preparing individual tax returns for four years, I became site coordinator for the VITA site at Hofstra Law School. Over the next two years our site saw tremendous growth as we tripled our client base by serving over 175 taxpayers, including members of the local community as well as university students. Now, I help individual and small business clients prepare their tax returns and resolve tax law issues in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. I hope to continue a career serving individuals and businesses alike by assisting them to comply with the tax code and also making an impact on the community around me in a helpful, positive way.
