About Michael J Obrien

Experienced project engineer/management professional, mechanical engineer, business owner, mine/plant general manager and leader with extensive experience in plant, mechanical and process engineering, project management from initiation and direction to operational leadership. Having studied Mechanical Engineering in Newfoundland and Labrador, I have long worked hard to stay in or near to my home of NL, adding significant experience for the amount of time in the field at nearly every mine in NL, my leadership values stem from direct communication strength, integrity and team development. My leadership approach is to identify the greatest potential within all team members and develop their functionality from their strengths, while fitting them within the roles required for the task at hand. My career highlights include leading the process development and implementation of a unique mining and mineral processing operation for production of Barite through dredging and flotation processes, holding significant (and standing) milestones in production while managing safety and environmental standards across the entire operation. Oversight of significant process gains from gravity pre-treatment of Barite ore to flotation and gravity concentration of bi-product sulphide concentrated in the process. Bringing professional organizational development to a small operation having been involved in major nickel extraction and hydrometallurgical concentration operation, as well as significant mining and milling concentrators both in Labrador (Voisey's Bay) and on the island of Newfoundland (Teck DPO). I am passionate about developing mineral potential within the Buchans region and throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, having been born and raised in a significant mining town and influenced by some of the best minds in the business. New technologies, coupled with mainstay reliable features, is the name of the game for me, as well as strict work systems and the belief in support innovation in all areas of business for high value creation and sustainable operational results.
