Background

About Michael Jak

In my career of over two decades I have prioritized designing spaces that functionally and aesthetically enrich the communities they serve. My approach to architecture is grounded in collaboration and dialogue while always striving to produce the best possible buildings. I bring a diverse background with experience delivering large and small projects among various sectors such as education, multifamily, corporate and more. I like to share the knowledge gained over my career with my colleages while continuing to perfect my craft in a profession that is always changing and evolving. This includes sustainability, I am a LEED AP and have worked on several LEED certified buildings. Recently, I am proud to have guided to completion a complex urban infill mixed-use project in downtown San Mateo, CA, and it will receive LEED Gold. I received a Bachelor of Environmental Design from Miami University (Ohio) followed by a Master of Architecture at the University of Washington in Seattle. While pursuing my master’s, I received a Mombusho research scholarship in Japan. I studied Japanese traditional inspiration in nature and its relationship to modern design within a densely urbanized society. This experience still influences my thinking about design and urbanity today.
