About Michael Jefferson

I bring over nine years of teaching experience across diverse contexts, from IELTS preparation and iGCSE English literature to NZ-curriculum Math, Computer Science, and Music. After qualifying as a secondary school teacher in New Zealand in January 2022, I taught at Wakatipu High School, where I led senior NCEA Computer Science courses with a focus on creative problem-solving, ethical computing, and real-world applications of technology. I’ve been described as a teacher with “enthusiasm that shows through and is contagious,” and I place strong value on fostering curiosity, empathy, and critical thinking in the classroom. Alongside teaching, I have developed a strong background in programming and systems support. I am particularly proficient in Go, with additional experience in Python, JavaScript, and modern web frameworks such as Svelte. In my Systems & Data Support role at WHS, I created and maintained tools that streamlined school operations, from integrating KAMAR with Power BI for better data flow to building automated systems that reduced staff workload and improved feedback quality. More recently, I completed a data integration project while continuing to build skills through personal and collaborative software projects. At the intersection of education and technology, I enjoy applying both pedagogical insight and technical expertise to solve problems, improve systems, and create meaningful learning experiences. Whether in the classroom or in software development, I bring a collaborative, solutions-focused approach and a commitment to helping others succeed.
