About Michael Jones

My interest in audio goes back to my teen years playing in garage bands, while my love of reading goes back to the first books I ever got lost in. While it had never occurred to me this disparate duo would ever meet, the world of audiobooks came to prove me wrong. In 6 years in my current role I've had the unique opportunity to develop my skills in several steps of the production process, as audio engineer, director, producer, casting director, and project manager to bring audiobooks to life. A small team has been instrumental in pushing me to continue taking on new roles and adding skills to my toolbelt, finding what works well and what needs streamlined. I've had the opportunity to cast and produce 700+ titles, and work on many more as a director or post-production / QC engineer. I've been honored to have a handful of those titles snag industry award nominations and wins and appear on "Best of" lists. I thrive as part of a driven, forward-thinking, positive team that seeks to put out the best product, understanding that these books are new worlds for readers to get lost in, the same as I have. I pride myself on my ability to problem solve and work under pressure with a positive and collaborative mindset.Outside of my professional world, I'm a musician and have recorded 20 or so records for my own projects as well as local bands, which has contributed to my proficiency in managing projects and deadlines as well as recording software and audio post-production. Post-pandemic, I've also become an avid board gamer after discovering the complex inner workings that modern game design has developed. I find this contributes greatly to my ability to think strategically and problem solve toward desired outcomes. So easily I can find myself thinking of multiple projects with competing deadlines and budget constraints as my next turn in a game, figuring how to make all the pieces fit.
