About Michael Keppen

I'm passionate about training and enjoy leading and collaborating with high-performing teams to create world class learning and development programs. I model a values-based, enthusiastic (coaching) leadership style and enjoy developing others with the necessary skills to improve their personal or professional life. I excel at building strategic growth and developing effective relationships.Over a 20-year military career, I helped organizations create high-performing teams and cultures that emphasize trust, empowerment, productivity, and quality. I thrive in transformative, challenging environments and have successfully led diverse, employee teams and managed nationally distributed,$.5B training & development programs. My Navy HR experience sharpened my leadership skills through increasingly difficult roles and responsibilities and it also increased my HR business acumen across multiple disciplines including: Talent Management, Learning & Development, and Organizational Effectiveness. I developed a global mindset as a world traveler early on and had the privilege of working with other countries and cultures to train their personnel to solve unique challenges. I found deep value in those partnerships and, through it all, I quickly learned to adapt and perform under pressure with purposeful initiative and a sense of urgency. In 2014, I was selected as the U.S. Navy HR Junior Officer of the Year and, in 2020, I was selected by Crain's Chicago as a Notable Leader in HR.
