About Michael King

The only Lecturer within the Academy of Excellence in Financial Crime Investigation and Compliance at Griffith University who had direct financial crime experience. My leading research is focused on policing, money laundering, financial/economic crime, white collar offences, regulatory issues and organised crime. I have published criminology and law related articles on policing, investigations, corruption and economic crime. As a criminologist I have presented and taught at several universities, Tafe and private training providers. My research was awarded the QUT Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award. I also won the Sage best research paper in the Faculty of Law at QUT in 2020 I have over 25 years of compliance, financial/fraud investigations and law enforcement experience for the Australian Commonwealth (APS), Queensland State government and private practice. Throughout my career I have conducted and supervised investigations involving income and goods and service fraud, and excise fraud. I have experience in applying AML principles and tracing illegal incomes and criminal proceeds through domestic and foreign bank accounts, trust accounts, and corporations to identify persons and assets.
