About Michael Kirby

i’m co-founder/owner of studio kirby (pty) ltd, qld’s niche multifaceted school photography, videography, design & marketing company. growing up i was literally surrounded by photography; darkroom, studio & office all within the walls of our childhood home. my younger years were spent helping my dad with his photography business (for pocket money) & i quickly developed an eye for detail, composition, colour & form. after year 12, i moved into a full-time role in the family business, assisting with transitioning into the digital era. by my early 20s, i was shadowing dad’s contractors at wedding shoots; watching, learning & assessing how they communicated & managed situations, figuring i could do it. my girlfriend (now wife) & my good friend dressed up as bride & groom & i shot their ‘wedding’ (no kissing shots!), created my first portfolio & kicked off my weekend side-hustle. this proved to be so successful, my dad suggested bringing it under his business arm…which didn’t fly with me. do i think i’m the world’s best photographer? no. but do i give it my all & truly connect with the people i’m working with? yes! understanding, listening & communicating well with people. appreciating it’s not only about the photo - how you make people feel throughout the process is vital. in 2010, my brother & i bought dad’s business & formed studio kirby (pty) ltd. with only 5 loyal school clients, we had our work cut out for us. but we love a challenge! two years on, we had 30 schools. today we service over 200 amazing schools across qld. i have a tight-knit team of passionate admin & creatives working alongside me. together, we’ve created a working environment that's fun, challenging & allows us to thrive. i strongly believe anything can be achieved through the power of an engaged & happy team. i'm obsessed with giving my best in all i do, especially in providing the highest quality service & product to a select number of clients & their community. quality over quantity, any day. quality relationships, quality service, quality product! it’s simply what our clients deserve. when i’m not working, i love spending time with my inner circle. my wife, two children & friends. i dabble in some sports to get the heart rate up, love bettering myself & working on any edge i can find, & throw in the odd game of golf for good measure. so, if you want to see how years of experience, together with a passionate & true understanding of qld schools can benefit your community - simple solutions that add massive value - contact me on mick@studiokirby.com.au
