Before that, Michael was Senior Commercial Counsel at Google, where he was primary legal counsel for several verticals, including semiconductor agreements, which later grew to include OEMs for Androids and partnership agreements with North American cell phone carriers. Product managers relied on Michael for practical guidance on international regulatory compliance, open-source use and compliance, and risk management. Michael also mentored several attorneys on his team while at Google. Michael launched his in-house career at NIKE, Inc. as an Assistant General Counsel on the Technology Transactions Team. In addition to drafting and negotiating development agreements, software licensing, development agreements, and equipment purchase agreements, he created and led an internal training program on best practices for open source and third-party collaborations, which he presented to engineering and product management teams. Michael began his legal career as an Intellectual Property Associate at Am Law 20 firm Jones Day. He later joined Morrison & Foerster and Stoel Rives, where he focused on tech transactions. Michael holds a Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School. He is admitted to practice law in California.
