Michael L. Boucher, Jr, Ph.D, associate professor of curriculum and instruction, has explored the use of photographs to elicit responses in ethnographic research in classroom settings. Specifically, he uses photo-elicitation to study successful white teachers' relationships of solidarity with their students of color. By viewing photos of classroom interactions between themselves and their students, teachers are able to reflect on their practice, interrogate their own ideas about race, and theorize around their negotiated teaching relationships in multiracial classrooms. His newest book, More than an Ally: A Caring Solidarity Framework for White Teachers of African American Students is available for presale at your favorite bookseller.
