My current research focuses on the theoretical study of energy pooling upconversion in free space and optical cavities. Specifically, using perturbation theory and quantum electrodynamics (QED) rate expressions for energy pooling and other relevant processes are found including: linear light absorption, spontaneous emission and resonant energy transfer. The rate expressions are populated with properties of organic molecules found using ab initio methods (DFT, TD-DFT, BSE, and CISD). The populated rate expressions are used in conjunction with a kinetic model to determine the energy efficiency of energy pooling in free space and optical cavity settings and the results are used to determine design criteria necessary for efficient energy pooling.
