About Michael Lau

I am currently working as an Assistant Genetic Technologist. I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), where I studied my IBMS accredited BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science. I hope to pursue with postgraduate studies in cardiovascular science and/or medicine.For my final year dissertation; I researched the exposure of serum indoxyl sulphate in cardiomyocytes (a H9C2 derivative), to determine whether it elicits an altered genetic expression of the calcium handling cycle.My dissertation has allowed me to develop a more specific science-base skill set, such as precision, accuracy, cell culture, DNA/RNA extraction, purification and quantification. As well as critical analysis of language and data sets from a series of laboratory work.I also gained a greater understanding from the extensive background reading in cardiovascular and renal systems, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease and their inter-related relationship.During my degree, I was also able to improve upon my management, organisation, and time management skills.
