About Michael Lawlor

Dr. Michael Lawlor is a neuropathologist and scientist with focused interests in genetic disorders, therapeutic development, and tissue analysis. He has worked at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin since 2011, performing tasks including clinical neuropathology and autopsy work, running two clinical laboratories focused on nerve and muscle diagnostics, and running a research laboratory focused on genetic disorders and treatment development. The work performed in his research laboratory at MCW has included the pathological analyses for a number of preclinical trial studies for animal models of X-linked myotubular myopathy (XLMTM), nemaline myopathy, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), with specific recent emphasis on gene therapy. Dr. Lawlor is currently working with multiple biotech and pharmaceutical companies in support of their gene therapy programs for muscle, metabolic, and brain disorders. Dr. Lawlor also has active research projects in his laboratory related to nemaline myopathy, and mitochondrial disease. His laboratory is also the site of the Congenital Muscle Disease Tissue Repository, which is intended to provide a central place for the donation and distribution of patient tissues. He is certified by the American Board of Pathology in the fields of anatomic pathology and neuropathology. In June/July of 2022, most of Dr. Lawlor's research operations will transition to Diverge Translational Science Laboratory (Diverge TSL), a specialty vendor focused on providing high quality tissue analysis and advising to contracted industry and academic partners.
