About Michael M Thomas

With over a decade of experience in public health informatics, applied data science, and computational science, my mission is to harness statistical and machine learning techniques to inform and improve data literacy and use to answer real questions. My expertise lies in synthesizing complex data sources and utilizing advanced computational tools such as R, Python, SQL, and machine learning frameworks to drive problem-solving initiatives in any sector. With a background in interdisciplinary teams, 1-1 consulting, and tutoring, I bring a collaborative approach and a passion for leveraging technology in a way that's understandable to all partners. At the CDC since August 2023, my role involves bridging the gap between epidemiological program experts and software development, ensuring actionable insights from complex datasets. I have honed my skills in BI tools and pipelines, Salesforce database design, and machine learning models including PyTorch, contributing to the advancement of disease surveillance and public health informatics. Through this work, I aim to enhance the efficacy of our health interventions and policies.
