Background

About Michael MacDonagh

I am a Designer and Developer with a BA in Creative Digital Media and over a decade of experience across web development, design, and digital media. My career has spanned everything from building WordPress sites for small businesses to developing enterprise apps on the Microsoft Power Platform, giving me both creative and technical range. What ties it all together is my focus on building functional, human-centered digital experiences. Whether designing visuals, coding interfaces, or streamlining workflows, I bring the same approach: problem-solving, clarity, and an eye for detail. In recent years, I have shifted my focus from digital marketing and low-code platforms toward modern web development and open technologies. To formalize that transition, I am completing the full freeCodeCamp curriculum (7 certifications, around 1,800 hours of project-based learning). By Christmas 2025, I will have four certifications completed, with live projects available on CodePen and GitHub. Beyond my formal work, I have built a personal brand called MechMadHog where I experiment with the overlap of technology and creativity, from illustration and design to AI-assisted workflows. I also volunteer as a CoderDojo mentor, teaching young people programming and digital skills, and was awarded a Special Purpose Certificate in Civic Engagement from ATU for my contribution. I bring a unique mix of creative and technical skills, proven consistency through multiple certifications and projects, and experience in both corporate IT and freelance client work. I have developed strong communication and mentoring abilities through CoderDojo and client-facing roles. I am now looking for opportunities where I can apply my web development, problem-solving, and design background in building user-focused applications while continuing to grow in modern frameworks, automation, and creative technology.
