Background
About Michael Mahon
Statement of Educational Philosophy: I believe that effective educational communities stem from a recognition of the needs of each and every learner. The challenges which exist in every classroom require facilitators of the educational project to be attentive, reflective, and creative in their approaches. It is necessary to adapt to the learner and to be, above all things, flexible. Being able to Change one’s methods to make learning experiences relevant for students is the key to effective teaching in any setting. I am an adaptive professional who has worked in a variety of settings, and, I have found that the best curriculum that can be used within any community of learning is a well assessed and clearly mandated one. Organizational systems offer the best results if they are consistent throughout all areas of the school’s educational project. I enjoy working with the framework of the International Baccalaureate Program: it permits students to participate in the selection of content, issues, and learning opportunities which are meaningful for them. It further reinforces best practices as I manage and implement inquiry based learning experiences for students and guide teachers toward fulfilling their potential through best practices and the recognition of clearly stated expectations. As an active and internationally minded person I have high expectations for my students since they will need to contend with and overcome so many challenges in their shared future. I am a creative educator who enjoys inventing new, effective, and well assessed programs. I am firmly convinced that inquiry based, developmentally appropriate, and well assessed methods; consistently observed and delivered; in a clear, organized, and creative manner are the best ways to provoke the learning instincts in any learning community.
