In the past 15 years I have been instrumental in helping companies to the completion of critical, complex software products. I day-to-day manage dev and test teams, review code, product plans/roadmaps/designs, give input on hiring and conduct performance reviews. I communicate, build consensus, improve processes as needed and marshal teams towards success, mentoring and coaching. I work to ensure that everyone who is in a meeting truly understands how the discussion pertains to them, and what we need to focus on to succeed. It takes humility, vision and tenacity. Like it or not, the world of software creation is full of turmoil. As a result, good people can burrow into a niche and hang on, avoiding change and spurious blame. Draconian schedules they had no real input into may hang over their heads: team cohesion and direction in this environment needs real effort. Training and documentation become out of date. There is more and more dependency on third party systems, cloud and code generators. But guess what: these are produced by companies with the same problems you're having. All the while the global cybersecurity effort is non-stop.
