About Michael McCann

I am an aspiring data scientist with ten years of experience working as an analyst for the United States Government (State Department and Department of Defense). I have extensive experience analyzing large amounts of data and distilling it down into action-oriented reports, visuals, and briefings for senior customers. I look forward to combining my analytic experience and programming skills to fully transition into a data science career. During the COVID pandemic, I was afforded the time to teach myself the R programming language and start applying it to my work finding that it made a number of my analytic processes more streamlined and effective. A few personal projects later I was hooked, which ultimately led to me signing up for a Coding Dojo’s Data Science and Machine Learning boot camp to expand my knowledge and provide structure to my previously self-directed studies. As part of this program, I carried out three large projects, conducting linear regression on grocery sales data, classification modeling on what makes a successful board game, and movie database creation and hypothesis (A/B) testing (These projects are available on my Github).
