About Michael McLaughlin

Chief Michael W. McLaughlin began his fire service career in 1988, as a Reserve Firefighter with the Contra Costa County Consolidated Fire Protection District. In May 1991, Chief McLaughlin was hired as a Firefighter/Paramedic by the South Lake County Fire Protection District. On December 15, 1993, Chief McLaughlin was hired by the Lawrence Livermore Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic. He promoted through the ranks to become the Assistant Fire Chief. In May 2007, Chief McLaughlin began working for the Merced Fire Department as a Division Chief. In February 2011 Chief McLaughlin was appointed as the fire chief for the City of Merced Fire Department where he led the organization through the most fiscally impacted times the modern fire service has ever seen. In February 2014, Chief McLaughlin was appointed as the Deputy Fire Chief for the Cosumnes CSD Fire Department serving the cities of Elk Grove and Galt. Beginning in June 2017, he was appointed and continues to serve, as the Fire Chief for the Cosumnes CSD Fire Department.Chief McLaughlin is a designated Chief Fire Officer by the Commission on Professional Credentialing, a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy, and is a Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers. He has an Associate of Science Degree in Fire Technology from Yuba College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Department Administration from Cogswell Polytechnical College. He has been a licensed Paramedic in California since 1990.Chief McLaughlin is the Legislative Director for the California Fire Chiefs Association. He is also the CALIFORNIA Director for the Western Fire Chiefs Association and the past President of the League of California Cities Fire Chiefs Department Executive Board.
