About Michael Montess

I am a Bioethicist at CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health) and an Assistant Professor (Status-Only) at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. I completed my PhD in Philosophy at York University and my dissertation was on the social and political dimensions of the ethics of HIV prevention. I was previously a Clinical Ethics Fellow with the Centre for Clinical Ethics at Unity Health Toronto and the University of Toronto, a Policy Analyst with the Public Health Ethics Consultative Group at the Public Health Agency of Canada, a Postdoctoral Associate in the Rotman Institute of Philosophy and the School of Health Studies at Western University, and a Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Public Health and Social Policy at the University of Victoria. My research has focused on topics related to public health ethics involving pandemics, including both COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS, as well as other topics in 2SLGBTQ+ health. I am excited to be joining CAMH as a Bioethicist and to be working on ethical issues related to mental health and addictions given my interests and the many connections to his past clinical, research, and teaching experiences.
