Background

About Michael Moros

I focus on the environment and wildlife. I have also worked in financial services, technology, and sales. Hopefully more people will become vegan. It would be best if most people stopped eating lobster (Homarus americanus). The habitat of the Critically Endangered North Atlantic Right Whale has been encroached upon by millions of vertical-line lobster traps. Entanglement is a leading cause of death for North Atlantic Right Whales. Even when an entanglement is survived, reduced reproductive success ensues. The U.S. and Canada must stop lobstering with vertical-line traps. It would be best if most vinyl-coated metal lobster traps were recycled as scrap metal. This would alleviate geologic subsidence and sea level rise, as well as remove the source of countless bits of flaked-off vinyl coating in the sea. Associated plastic ropes and buoys should be burned in trash to energy. So-called ropeless lobster traps are a scam, obfuscating the issue. Their rope is coiled up waiting to be released by a radio signal. The potential for further entanglements from malfunctioned and abandoned such traps is obvious. And what of the harmful electromagnetic radiation? If people stopped eating lobsters there would then be more lobster larvae which are zooplankton, baleens’ main source of food. Vessel strikes are the other leading cause of death of North Atlantic Right Whales. Speed restrictions of 10 knots for all vessels are needed throughout North Atlantic Right Whale habitat. Wildlife habitat should be increased, green space preserved and pavement reduced. The proliferation of Smart Phones has had the unintended consequence of exposing people and wildlife to harmful levels of electromagnetic radiation. I mostly oppose tearing down quality smaller homes to replace them with larger ones sheathed with inferior materials. Why frame houses – that can last a century or more – with quality lumber, only to sheath them in such toxic materials? The cost savings are minimal compared to the value of a house. The chips of wood in oriented strand board could instead be used to make paper. With green manuring, minimal tilling, and crop rotation, I cultivate organic vegetables: no herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers, and no animal manure – mulches and compost, veganic agriculture. In municipal recycling, it would be best to simply separate paper and cardboard from metal and glass and then burn most plastic in waste-to-energy. Food waste is caused by excessive handling and transport. It would be best to transport produce from California mostly by train.
