Background
About Michael Nash
Starting off in industrial maintenance with a few tools and a maintenance manager taking a chance on a young kid having a little machining experience and who spent his younger years in the body shop, I was able to take that opportunity to work hard and grow my skillset as a mechanic. I showed up early and stayed late. I worked as much overtime as I was allowed. I attended every training opportunity presented to me and asked for a few more, to which I was obliged. I slowly got involved with our electricians, learning the ways of 3 phase. In 2010, that same maintenance manager approached me and asked me to transfer to refrigeration."We'll get all the tools you need and send you to school. You'll get everything you need, all you have to do is sign up." How could I refuse that? I worked hard as always and enjoyed learning ammonia's excellent properties as a refrigerant. These days, I'm proficient in high and low voltage electrical, to include PLC's, motors, relays, coils, solenoids, capacitors, and all the other components used in the cooling process. In 2016, I proposed a plan to run a floating discharge pressure vs pressure setpoints, with a low limit of 100 psi to facilitate defrost. This operating change saved our plant an estimated $88k/yr. I also spend time monitoring electrical consumption in the engine room, keep an eye on hand expansion valves to keep efficiency up, as well as doing daily rounds and preventatives to ensure downtime is minimized. Other interests include competitive marksmanship and home efficiency. I plan to build a home in the next five years with a small carbon footprint and intend to generate all the electricity needed to run a fully functioning home. In the future, my plans could include management or becoming an instructor as I love mentoring new guys on how to squeeze another dime out of their company's dollar while continuing my own education and skills to stay on the cutting edge of technology. I enjoy learning just as much as ever!
