Background

About Michael Neumann

I'm an educator and leader committed to building inclusive systems where every member of the school community feels seen, valued, and empowered to thrive. Currently, I am the DEIJ Coordinator at St. George’s International School in Luxembourg, working across the community to embed diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice into everyday school life. In addition to this, I co-facilitate the ECIS DEIJ Leadership Development Cohort, where I am lucky to work with leaders and educators throughout the year to explore a wide range of DEIJ topics, build community, and contextualize and advance their practices within their own school settings. With over a decade of experience in education, I’ve held roles as a classroom teacher, IT teacher, curriculum coordinator, and assistant principal. Across these roles, I’ve led school-wide DEIJ programmes, developed inclusive policies, and introduced systems to track and respond to identity-based harm. My work is grounded in a deep interest in qualitative research and the belief that individual and group stories can reveal patterns that drive meaningful, systemic change. Some areas of experience and interest include- Inquiry and student agency as tools for exploring identity, power, justice, and belonging in meaningful and developmentally appropriate ways - How educators make sense of practices that reinforce social difference - Gender inclusivity, particularly how the gender binary shapes students’ experiences and how we can create more expansive and equitable environments - Curriculum mapping and the progression of diversity topics across the school experience - Leadership and team dynamics through both cultural and neurodiversity lenses - The role of artificial intelligence in shaping bias and learning in schools Whether I’m working with students, supporting staff, or engaging with families, my focus remains the same: to help build school communities where every learner feels a strong sense of belonging, can explore their identity, develop empathy, and learn about the diverse people and perspectives that shape our world.
