Precision Medicine Consulting, LLC, is dedicated to assisting patients, families and communities navigate the highly technical environment of medical genetics to achieve the benefits of Precision Medicine. Specifically, this can include a review of patient/family medical history, identification of sample(s) for DNA analysis (germline/somatic), discussion of sequencing assay options, and sequence analysis and variant classification. A goal of matching pathogenic mutations to appropriate therapeutic options is desired. Dr. Nickerson provides an important interface between patients and physicians regarding these options and procedures. Precision Medicine Consulting seeks to improve public education about genetics, genomics and sequencing with a goal to implement Precision Medicine in clinical trials for more accurate diagnosis and treatment of disease. Precision Medicine Consulting provides public lectures about genetics, genomics and Precision Medicine; customized genetics analyses for patients and families; and sequence analysis and interpretation. Lectures to institutions hosting diverse ethnic groups and/or those in smaller rural communities are emphasized. As an Associate Investigator for a clinical trial examining Olaparib (Astra Zeneca), we've designed a trial that utilizes Foundation Medicine gene panel sequencing to identify patients with metastatic bladder tumor DNA carrying mutations in BRCA pathway genes (and other DNA repair genes). These patients will allow us to examine the efficacy of a targeted therapy (Olaparib) for improved disease management. We are currently enrolling patients through the Clinical Trials Network, NCI.
