The principal role of structural bioinformatics is to complement experimental structural studies in various ways by in silico studies. At the Institut Pasteur we concentrate on the following areas (1) Protein–protein recognition: Analysis of the dynamics of protein–protein binding and prediction of protein–protein complexes (2) Use and development of docking strategies and virtual screening strategies to study protein–ligand interactions; in silico design of ligands with therapeutic potential (projects on M. tubreculosis, P. falciparum, T. cruzi, Gram+ bacteria).(3) Free energy calculations to predict binding constants with high accuracy.(4) Development of strategies for structure calculation from NMR data.(5) Use and development of homology modelling methods to answer specific biological questions on protein function.
