About Michael Nowicki

I am currently working on a major ground system component for the upcoming CHORUS-C mission. This will involve modernizing our ground station infrastructure to be a cloud based system, using containerized workflows for job execution. This work is primarily being done in Go, using Docker and Kubernetes to support the infrastructure.For the past year I have been getting more responsibility as a primary developer for our optical Production environment. This has taught me about how optical sensing is performed, and the major differences between optical and SAR systems. This work involved writing optimized C++ code for efficient processing and enhancement of large imagery sets.Before working on optical image processing I worked on the development of the Mission Planning Subsystem for the RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM). This system is crucial in the ground stations supporting the mission as it is the primary tool used by Operators to schedule activities with the spacecraft. This involved the scheduling of collects, uplinking/downlink data with the spacecraft, and exchanging cryptographic keys. After successfully implementing and testing this service I was sent to the customers site to perform full end to end integration work for the ground station. This provided me with invaluable experience and showed me the complete operations chain from tasking to product generation.I graduated from UBC Okanagan with my B. Sc. in Computer Science with Honours. While completing my degree I worked as a teaching assistant as well as a research assistant looking into topics in automated reasoning for AI systems and network analysis. I have a strong mathematical background with a focus on graph theory and it's applications.
