About Michael Nugent

Mr. Nugent is Managing Director, Strategy, Finance and Operations consultant with Guidehouse’s healthcare provider and payer practice. He has led/leads several of the firm’s largest, most complex strategic and operational integration engagements, and serves in interim executive roles. His work has included a variety of strategic planning, organizational design, financial turnaround, operations, M&A and other engagements across the industry over the past 25+ years, including a sub-specialization in managed care. He is also a frequent speaker, writer and advisor to health system and payer executives on topics including strategy, operations, reform, contract negotiations, new product & service development, organizational design, analytics strategy, risk & capitation contracting, and strategic, facilities & capital planning. He is co-author of the industry’s top selling book on Accountable Care Organizations published by ACHE/HAP. He has also led major financial and operational turnarounds at leading health plans and a variety of providers, including corporate restructuring, as well as advising on significant merger & affiliation arrangements across the industry. Mike is the founder of the firm’s Managed Care practice where he works with large health systems, managed care companies, public payers, hospitals, physician practices on a variety of strategic, operational, organization and technical matters related to system integration, financial integration, clinical integration, new products, cost management, and payment models.
