About Michael Oneill

Starting at a granular level studying why and how people thrive in life, I soon realized there were larger forces at work than individual characters, motivations, drives, traits. My graduate school experience put me in the forefront of a way of thinking of families, schools, communities as social systems, with far more in common than often thought of. I recognized that social psychology gave me more salient answers to my questions. The interest of my earliest years has continued, unabated, while this broader and deeper understanding has taken me into vast new areas of professional interest. The common focus of every position I've held or participated in, has been what community itself is, and how it thrives or dies, supports life or curdles it, This has led to studies and work in sociology, political economy, engineering, architecture, landscape, ecology, to name but a few. And in direct involvement in community-based functions and organizations. In recent years my interests have turned to the dynamics of community that come with the passage of time. I'm particularly impressed with the effects of the world itself on the development of a sense of bonding between people. History and geography. My continuing education and service are sustained as a self-funded non-profit organization that neither solicits nor accepts donations.
