Michael Ortiz is a global external relations executive with experience in financial services, healthcare, emerging technologies, and national security, providing strategic counsel to senior leaders in both the private and public sectors. He is adept at solving multifaceted operational and communications challenges, building policy and public affairs functions, managing cross-functional teams, and advising investors and business leaders on risks and opportunities at the intersection of business, policy, communications, and investment strategy. He is currently Vice President of Policy at Sequoia Capital, where he advises investors, tech founders, and companies in the US, UK and Europe on complex regulatory and policy matters. He previously led public affairs at Roivant Sciences, a unicorn biotech and health tech company that incubates and scales innovative startups. Earlier in his career, Michael held senior strategy, policy and communications roles at the White House, National Security Council, Department of State, and Congress. Michael is a Strategy and Statecraft Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a member of the Atlantic Council’s Counterterrorism Study Group, and a member of the Stanford in Washington National Advisory Council. He is a corporate member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and has been a participant in the CFR Term Member Program. He graduated with honors from Stanford University.
