About Michael Papantoniou

Michael has 17 years’ experience gained primarily in the oil and gas and refinery industries. has rapidly built an impressive reputation with senior management of major oil and gas companies, as an adept leader with extensive knowledge and the proven ability to drive projects to a successful conclusion. He is a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), Chartered Chemical Engineer and TUV Functional Safety Engineer. Michael’s most recent role was as the Engineering Manager on various QGC projects, including providing specialist advice for the US$4.6 billion sale of the QCLNG Pipeline, operational support, brownfield upgrades and engineering management of the $120 million QGC Interconnect Program. Previously during the design of the QCLNG Pipeline, he was responsible of the overall engineering management of the 543 km 42 inch Class 600 transmission pipeline network, reporting to both senior management and the client. Additionally, he led process design and process safety of the pipeline and pipeline facilities. Michael is also a highly regarded workshop facilitator specialising in SMS, HAZID, HAZOP and LOPAs in the pipeline and oil and gas industries. Previous experience includes the BP Bulwer Island Refinery (as a RCC Process Support Engineer, supporting day-to-day operations and long-term optimisation of units), a Southern Oil Refinery redevelopment project in NSW (performing feasibility studies, process detailed design, equipment/instrumentation selection, HAZOPs, CHAZOPs, plant layout, construction management and commissioning support), the Olympic Dam Concentrate Leach Thickeners Upgrade Project (as Lead Process Engineer testing working coordination, process design, and equipment selection), and the Proserpine Furfural Plant (closing-out HAZOP actions). Michael has built his career on his ability to quickly grasp concepts, memorise technical details, and multitask priorities to achieve best-for-project outcomes.
