About Michael Pedersen

I am an economist with extensive experience in macroeconomic research, policy analysis, and academic teaching. My career spans over two decades in central banking, academia, and international consultancy, with a focus on monetary policy, fiscal institutions, inflation expectations, and applied econometrics. At the Central Bank of Chile, I served in senior roles, including as Head of Conjunctural Assessment and Senior Economist in the Research Division. I was responsible for short-term forecasting, macroeconomic monitoring, and providing analytical input to the monetary policy decision-making process. In academia, I currently teach and conduct research at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Chile, where I lecture in macroeconomics, econometrics, and global economics at both undergraduate and graduate levels. I have also taught at other institutions including the University of Copenhagen, Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, and Universidad Alberto Hurtado. I have published in peer-reviewed journals such as International Journal of Forecasting, Economic Modelling, Journal of Financial Stability, and Empirical Economics. My research interests include expectation formation, forecasting accuracy, monetary policy transmission, and the role of climate change in macro-financial stability. In addition to academic and central bank roles, I have carried out short-term consultancies and technical assistance projects for institutions including the Autonomous Fiscal Council of Chile, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and USAID via The Pragma Corporation. These engagements have focused on fiscal frameworks, macroeconomic tools, monetary policy and climate risk, and economic stabilization in post-conflict contexts. I have also participated in capacity-building efforts through technical training and advisory support to public institutions. From 2012 to 2016, I served as a member of the Governing Board of the Chilean Copper Commission (Cochilco), representing the Central Bank of Chile and contributing to oversight and policy discussions on the country’s strategic mining sector. Fluent in English, Spanish, and Danish, I bring a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary perspective to economic analysis and public policy.
