Background
About Michael Piccinino
Michael Piccinino is the youngest Secretary General of Partit Nazzjonalista (affiliated with the European People's Party) since the Second World War. Born on April 6, 1995, in Pieta, Malta, his academic and professional paths are notable for their focus on law, human rights, communications, and political engagement. After completing his Bachelor of Laws, he pursued a Master of Advocacy and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Rights, dedicating four years to serving on the University of Malta Senate. Michael is currently pursuing a Masters in Knowledge-Based Entrepreneurship at the University of Malta. At 21, Michael became President of the National Youth Council of Malta, where he was instrumental in advocating for the Vote16 legislation, a critical step in lowering the voting age in Malta. His advocacy work at a national level led to his election at 23 to the Board of the European Youth Forum, where for two years, he represented the interests of young Europeans and youth organizations with the European Union, Council of Europe and European Governments. His political career within Partit Nazzjonalista quickly progressed, beginning with his role as Political Coordinator in August 2020, and as Executive Organisational Secretary from November 2020 where he efficiently managed party structures. By July 2021, at 26, he was elected Secretary General, reflecting his leadership skills and commitment to the party's goals and strategies. During his tenure, Partit Nazzjonalista achieved its best result ever in the European Parliament elections, securing the largest number of votes and voter share it has ever received in these elections. Additionally, Michael serves as CEO of Media.Link Communications Ltd, a media company owned by Partit Nazzjonalista. This role demonstrates his capacity to oversee complex organizational tasks and his adeptness in communications and media relations. Under his leadership, stations owned by Media.Link have achieved their best results ever, with Net Television becoming the most-watched private TV station in Malta and Net FM registering its largest share in history. Michael Piccinino's career reflects a deep commitment to enhancing democratic engagement and political participation, showcasing him as a dedicated leader in Malta’s political, civic, and communications landscape.
