About Michael Pierce

I have worked in the field of Athletic Communications (formerly known as Sports Information) for the past 16+ years. With that experience, I have learned a great deal about the communications industry as a whole, and have developed a wide variety of skills that will enable me to branch out to any number of different industries. Early in my career, I initially created a social media presence at Florida Gulf Coast University, establishing Facebook pages and Twitter profiles for the athletic department, as well as for individual teams, which I then utilized to increase awareness of our teams to the students, faculty, and members of the local community. I was also an integral part of the inception of live streaming for home games at FGCU, serving as play-by-play commentator, producer, director, and camera operator for numerous events. As I transitioned to a full-time SID at Embry-Riddle, I was able to utilize my skill set as well as expand on it, demonstrating my skills as a writer and social media manager while learning the ins and outs of Adobe Creative Suite and getting my first opportunity to supervise student workers. I was able to write a larger volume of press releases, coordinate more stories with the local news media, and continue to evolve as a social media manager, including learning how to utilize Instagram, YouTube, and podcasts to help increase our social media presence. In my time at Rollins, I have enjoyed working with even more teams and having additional responsibilities, including staffing all of the scorer’s table positions required for a number of sports, as well as coordinating an increased number of media requests due to our close affiliation with the Dan Patrick School of Sportscasting at nearby Full Sail University. I have also been able to have more involvement with budgeting and submitting payments for table staff, as well as developing a complete record book for a number of sports, which did not exist when I arrived at Rollins. Overall, I have a wide variety of skills that can be beneficial in a number of different fields and positions. I am a skilled writer who is able to quickly and effectively communicate nearly any subject or concept in a way that is clear and understandable to anyone, even if they are not an expert in that field. I am adept at managing social media channels, and have adapted with the changing landscape as social media constantly evolves. I also have experience with live streaming, photography, graphic design, website maintenance, and coordinating with news media organizations.
